Martha J. Calfee, CPA

Position                                  Martha serves as audit and consulting manger for MSA.  In that capacity she oversees audit staff in the field and works on various compliance and reimbursement projects.

Relevant Experience            Martha has over 25 years of healthcare experience.  Over 20 years were with Riverbend Government Benefits Administrator, the Medicare Fiscal Intermediary where she managed the Medicare Audit, Reimbursement, and Enrollment functions.  She served five years as a Director of Reimbursement for a small hospital chain where she was responsible for all third-party reimbursement areas including Medicare, Medicaid, Blue Cross, and all other insurance.  Martha has an extensive knowledge of Medicare laws, regulations, and government accounting standards.  She has a wealth of practical experience in the areas of the Medicare cost report representing the greatest risk to the Medicare Trust Fund, including Bad Debts, Graduate Medical Education, Disproportionate Share Payment, and Organ Acquisition.

                                                Martha joined Matheney Stees and Associates in February 2010.    

Professional Activities        Ms. Calfee has participated in developing and presenting many workshops/trainings to various groups.  This includes but is not limited to: Provider workshops regarding the current Medicare Audit environment, various Healthcare Financial Management Association (HFMA) presentations, and Medicare cost report training to OIG investigators.  She is currently serving on the Tennessee Chapter HFMA’s Board of Directors for FY 2009-10.  Her active involvement in this organization provides valuable Medicare expertise to the organization while remaining current on the issues facing the healthcare industry providers.  She is well respected by the provider community due to the involvement in this organization and her leadership at the Fiscal Intermediary.

Ms. Calfee is a Certified Public Accountant and a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the Tennessee Society of Certified Public Accountants. 

Education                              Martha received her Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration with a major in accounting from East Tennessee State University.
